Niklas Schoberth, product CGI from Germany.
I build product images and product animation for brands and agencies. No studio behind me and no layer in between: you talk to the person who also renders.
One pair of hands, deliberately not split up.
Modelling or preparing existing CAD data, material development, lighting, camera, rendering and post. For motion, animation and edit on top.
With product images the result depends on material, light and camera being tuned to each other. When three people work on it, that tuning is exactly what gets lost in the handovers.
Background in brief.
What the work runs on.
Blender with Cycles
Modelling, lookdev and rendering. Most of the work happens here.
After Effects
Compositing, motion and the finishing of animation.
Photoshop and Premiere
Final touches on stills and the edit for longer versions.
Three.js
For real time in the browser. The same scene can drive a configurator.
The same model, this time in your hands.
My main profession is frontend development. A CGI asset therefore does not have to end in a render. From the same scene that delivers hero visuals, a configurator can be built that runs in the browser.
The interactive model lets you inspect geometry and materials directly from different angles.
Rotate the model yourselfWho I work with.
Mostly brands and agencies in beauty, haircare, healthcare, supplements, FMCG and packaging. Those are the categories where material and packaging decide the effect, and that is exactly the part of the work that needs experience.
I work remotely, from Germany, for clients across the German-speaking region and Europe. For agencies also white label, how that runs is here.
How I work.
Direct in communication
If something does not work or another route is better, I say so before production starts.
Involved early
The earlier CGI is considered in the brief, the cleaner formats, variants and extensions can be planned.
Limited rounds
Two revision rounds are planned in. That is not strictness, it is what makes decisions happen.
Frequently asked questions.
Alone. Modelling, material, lighting, rendering and post come from one pair of hands. For very large ranges under time pressure that is the limit, and I flag it in advance.
From Germany, remotely for clients across the German-speaking region and Europe. On-site meetings are rarely needed, because the exchange runs on data and previews.
Blender with Cycles for 3D and rendering, plus After Effects, Photoshop and Premiere. For interactive browser work, Three.js.
