MEMO / NEW THINGS LAB

Show the product. Bring its use to life.

For MEMO by New Things Lab, I developed a CGI product film from supplied CAD data. The film presents the compact product, its details and its use with the pen.

01 / THE BRIEF

From a CAD model to a clear product presentation.

The client supplied the product model. My role was to turn it into a finished animation, with prepared surfaces, an appropriate environment and a sequence showing both product details and use.

The restrained background was specified by the client. It keeps attention on the product; the visual direction developed through close collaboration on look development and animation previews.

My role

I prepared the CAD model for Blender and rendering, created the UV mapping, textures and materials, and built the environment, lighting and animation. The original product model was supplied by the client.

02 / ANIMATION & USE

The pen leaves a visible mark.

For the writing sequence, I connected the pen movement with a line appearing on the writing surface. The line follows the movement, demonstrating the product in use within the film.

Created in Blender using Dynamic Paint, alongside product-part animation, camera work and final rendering.

Three views of the finished product.

Detail view: hinge, edges and material transitions.

In use: a line appears beneath the moving pen tip.

03 / THE OUTCOME

A finished film connecting form and use.

The result is a product film of approximately 37 seconds in portrait format. It combines overall views, material details and the animated writing sequence within a consistent visual direction.
