FALZ / SELF-INITIATED STUDY
A folding carton, folded frame by frame.
FALZ is a chocolate brand I developed as a self-initiated study. The carton builds itself in front of the camera from the flat blank, flap by flap, as stop motion in CGI.

01 / THE IDEA
Packaging that shows how it is made.
A folding carton is usually shown finished and closed. FALZ shows the way there: from the blank lying flat, through every single fold, to the tuck flap that closes the box.
The motion runs at 12 frames per second. Every pose is held and drifts slightly, as if placed by hand. The film feels handmade and still stays fully controllable.
My part
Brand, dieline and print, the rig for the folding, a board material with a crushed cut edge and fibres, the embossing as real geometry, lighting, animation and rendering. FALZ is a fictional brand, not a client commission.

02 / THE FILM
From flat blank to closed carton.
Six shots lead through the folding: a wide shot of the blank, macros of the crease and the flap, a medium shot of the open box, a top view of the label and finally the embossing in moving raking light.
The camera moves in stop-motion steps as well. Flaps that are already folded lie still; only the flap being folded moves.
03 / THE RANGE
Three flavours from one setup.
Dark 72 %, hazelnut & sea salt and raspberry & white chocolate share the dieline, material and lighting. Only the print changes. This is how a packaging range can be built before the first box is printed.

04 / MATERIAL DETAIL
Board that feels like board.
The embossing is real geometry and casts its own shadows in low light. The cut edges are not clean but slightly crushed, with the thickness of the board visible.
Fine fibres stand out along the cut edges. In backlight, the edge reads as a frayed outline, just like real board.

05 / TWO LIGHTING MOODS
One scene, two looks.
The film runs in calm studio light. For the social cut and the stills, the same scene sits in hard, warm sunlight with blind shadows. Because everything is built in 3D, a new look is a lighting decision, not a new shoot.
